With all sports put to a stop right now there isn’t much for sports to watch. The NBA playoffs would’ve been somewhere around the second round by now and baseball would have been a month into their season. ESPN’s The Last Dance, about Michael Jordan and his 1990 Chigaco bulls team, is giving sports fans something to watch and rant about each week.
Episode 3 which had just aired last night is seen to be the most controversial and talked about episode yet. Dennis Rodman was the main focus for this episode, talking about things like how he was homeless, to playing and beating up the chicago bulls and then to playing and winning three championships with them.
The 1990 bulls had changed the sports world. They had their ups and downs just like any other team. But they did win six championships in two three-peats in just seven years. They weren’t the first big three to team up and dominate the league but they sure were the most effective.
They were three guys who were all known for their own things. Jordan being Michael Jordan the G.O.A.T. Scottie Pippen being Jordans right hand man all throughout his career. Rodman being a part of “the bad boys”, his weird reputation and the best rebounder of his time possibly.
Michael Jordan wasn’t your ordinary player. He was the best, he was the guy to look up to, the guy to lead your team. Jordan was the ultimate teammate and leader. No one else in the league would have been able to deal with Rodman’s antics and Scottie Pippen’s attitude like the way he did.
Dennis Rodman wasn’t the easiest teammate to deal with. The man stook out like a sore thumb, with his funky hair, piercings and his sense of style. As well as his terrible reputation of being the most physical player in the NBA and only bringing problems to the court. But when it came to playing the game of basketball there wasn’t a player he could defend or out board. He wasn’t scared of anyone, he went out there willing to fight, get cut and bleed
Michael knew what he was in for with a guy like Rodman, he knew how to deal with him. When Dennis asked for his vacation, it was given to him. Even though he went over his “48 hour” deadline, Jordan never lost his faith and trust in him. Michael had to drag his ass out of bed and bring him to practice and from there on out they went back to work with no problems and balled out.
This documentary is truly a must watch especially for sports players and fans. This doc shows what it is like to be a good teammate and to be a good leader. Jordan took matters into his own hands when it came down to it. When Pippen was out, he sat Rodman down and told him to step it up and be his right hand man, and he did, they went on a roll.
Michael was not scared to speak his mind to his teammates, his coaches, and his front office. He knew he was the guy to lead that team. He knew he was the guy everyone was counting on. He took that role to the next level. Michael Jordan is one of the best role models to have to follow. All sports players should strive to have an attitude and desire like him
