With all sports put to a stop right now there isn’t much for sports to watch. The NBA playoffs would’ve been somewhere around the second round by now and baseball would have been a month into their season. ESPN’s The Last Dance, about Michael Jordan and his 1990 Chigaco bulls team, is giving sports fans something to watch and rant about each week.

Episode 3 which had just aired last night is seen to be the most controversial and talked about episode yet. Dennis Rodman was the main focus for this episode, talking about things like how he was homeless, to playing and beating up the chicago bulls and then to playing and winning three championships with them.

The 1990 bulls had changed the sports world. They had their ups and downs just like any other team. But they did win six championships in two three-peats in just seven years. They weren’t the first big three to team up and dominate the league but they sure were the most effective.

They were three guys who were all known for their own things. Jordan being Michael Jordan the G.O.A.T. Scottie Pippen being Jordans right hand man all throughout his career. Rodman being a part of “the bad boys”, his weird reputation and the best rebounder of his time possibly.

Michael Jordan wasn’t your ordinary player. He was the best, he was the guy to look up to, the guy to lead your team. Jordan was the ultimate teammate and leader. No one else in the league would have been able to deal with Rodman’s antics and Scottie Pippen’s attitude like the way he did.

Dennis Rodman wasn’t the easiest teammate to deal with. The man stook out like a sore thumb, with his funky hair, piercings and his sense of style. As well as his terrible reputation of being the most physical player in the NBA and only bringing problems to the court. But when it came to playing the game of basketball there wasn’t a player he could defend or out board. He wasn’t scared of anyone, he went out there willing to fight, get cut and bleed

Michael knew what he was in for with a guy like Rodman, he knew how to deal with him. When Dennis asked for his vacation, it was given to him. Even though he went over his “48 hour” deadline, Jordan never lost his faith and trust in him. Michael had to drag his ass out of bed and bring him to practice and from there on out they went back to work with no problems and balled out.

This documentary is truly a must watch especially for sports players and fans. This doc shows what it is like to be a good teammate and to be a good leader. Jordan took matters into his own hands when it came down to it. When Pippen was out, he sat Rodman down and told him to step it up and be his right hand man, and he did, they went on a roll.

Michael was not scared to speak his mind to his teammates, his coaches, and his front office. He knew he was the guy to lead that team. He knew he was the guy everyone was counting on. He took that role to the next level. Michael Jordan is one of the best role models to have to follow. All sports players should strive to have an attitude and desire like him

3 Pitch Ideas

Kasey Flavin

One of the people I’ve chosen to possibly write a profile about is Kasey Flavin. She is currently a sophomore defender on the Adelphi Women’s lacrosse team.  She was a part of the girls amazing 2019 run where they became division 2 national champions. Kasey joined the team late as she was a transfer from Marist which is a division 1 school. She plays alongside her sister Kerry who is one of the four captains at Adelphi. Before Adelphi she attended and played lacrosse at Oceanside high school where she was an all-county player for lacrosse, as well as all-conference in basketball. The two people who I would go talk to about her would be her best friend, teammate, and roommate Kristina Schweitzer, and her other current college teammate and highschool teammate, Christina McCabe.

Katarina Warburton

Another person I have chosen to possibly write about is Katarina Warburton. She currently just finished her senior campaign for the Adelphi women’s volleyball team. Katarina had seen plenty of action in all four years as a Panther. She was 1 of the 2 captains her senior year. Her best year was her sophomore year where she had set many presonal and school records. She had won libero of the year for the NE-10 as well as joining the all-conference and all-region first teams. Before adelphi she attended Notre Dame Belmont, where she won a state championship for volleyball, and was a two time member of the California Central Coast Championship team. The people I would talk to about her would be her teammate, good friend and co-captain Stephanie Milillo and her roommate Victoria Cast.

Marisa Dennis

The last person who I’ve chosen to write about is Marisa Dennis. She currently just finished her junior campaign for the Adelphi women’s soccer team. The junior had seen a lot of action in her first 3 years playing as a defender. Her best year yet was her sophomore year where she started 14 of the 16 games played and logged 3 shots, 1 being a shot on goal, which is impressive for a defender. Before Adelphi she attended Tolland high school in Tolland connecticut. Where she racked up 2 all-conference selections and one all state selection. The people I would talk to about her are her best friend and teammate Jessica Petry and roommate Emily Perry.

Life Without Sports

My life has completely changed without sports. My life has changed not only physically but mentally and socially. Sports have been played through not one but two World Wars. As well as the influenza pandemic in 1918 during the world series. COVID-19 is not only affecting me personally but the entire world and everyone in it.

Having no sports has impacted my life so heavily on the physical level. I went from having baseball practice and games six times a week as well as mandatory lifts twice a week to sitting around unable to go outside. Trying to go from sitting around doing nothing, unable to practice and workout because of a lack of machines or weights, to trying to pick it all back up again and get back into the swing of things is going to be hard. Not only for me but for the people who are either working from home or are out of work temporarily. I am unable to go out and see my friends or even swing a bat really. My dad was a first responder for 9/11 and has very serious respiratory issues so I have to be careful with who I see and what I touch and make sure I’m always washing my hands for his mine and his sake especially. I don’t watch much regular TV but if I am I’m most likely watching a baseball or football or even a basketball game. So not only am I bored around the house but there isn’t much for me to watch on TV.

Without sports my life is also affected mentally. A month ago I was in a good state of mind. I had everything going good from school work and grades to baseball, I was playing well and the team was feeling good. When the news officially broke that our season had ended the entire team including myself were all in shock and depressed, we thought it was all a dream. Right at that moment my mental state went downhill. I knew for a fact we were going to have to continue classes online, although online classes sound easier or are easier for some, I prefer in person classes. Without having baseball or classes I was honestly concerned with what I was going to do with all my free time and how I was going to handle being stuck in quarantine. A week into online classes and I immediately see and feel the change in classes. Nothing is taken as seriously, and for some classes when we were back on campus had barely given out any work to do and now that we are online every single professor of mine has loaded me up and it is a little overwhelming to be honest.

My social life has also been impacted by life with no sports. Being unable to go outside and talk to or even see my friends is not fun. When I’m home my everyday life consists of seeing my friends and playing basketball or football or even working outside with some of them. This summer I was supposed to play in a league out in the hamptons with a team of a bunch of random guys I’ve never met or even heard of and now I might not get the chance to even meet them. Going to the supermarkets is very weird too, the roads are completely empty but as soon as you get to the store there’s a line just to enter the store because it is so crowded.

Life without sports is really taking a toll on a good portion of this world. This disease has ruined many sports moments forever. It could possibly end the rest of the NBA season including playoff and championship and could possibly cut down baseball to only 60-70 games instead of 162. Something good for sports has to happen soon for the sake of today’s world and how much it impacts it.

Panthers suffer comeback loss to Pace

Garden City, N.Y.–The Panthers (18-6) suffered a tragic 87-83 loss to Pace University (17-9). Adelphi’s strong first half performance wasn’t enough to hold out Pace as they came out strong in the second half and pushed the game to overtime.

Overtime was quite the shootout in the first 2:30 minutes, each team going shot for shot. Until Pace’s Tyrone Cohen (8-15) put up a clutch three to put the Setters up by four with 1:30 left to play. Adelphi was then forced to foul intentionally to stop the clock allowing the setters to go to the line on 3 separate occasions. Foley would hit a three for adelphi but that would not be enough as pace won 87-83

The opposing team opened up the second half with a 14-6 run in the first five minutes. They were led by Peyton Wejnert with 31 points (11-24) and added 14 rebounds to complete his double double. Pace started off the game slowly finishing the first half with only two second chance points then finishing with 17.

The Setter’s offense not only outscored the Panthers but out boarded them too. Pace finished with 20 offensive rebounds. “We didn’t do a great job on the glass, and we turned the ball over,” said the Panthers head coach Dave Duke. Along with the 20 offensive rebounds given up by Adelphi they also had 21 turnovers and some in critical situations.

Adelphi’s leading scorer #14 Spencer Foley had himself a good night with 20 points (7-15), adding in three rebounds and going 3-3 from the line in 41:33 minutes. The panthers were also led by Austin Beech (4-9), Ronnie Silva (5-20) and Chris Coalmon (4-7) who all finished with 13 points. Silva and Beech finishing off their nights both with double doubles

Adelphi came out strong with a quick double digit lead in the first five minutes in the first half. They were on a 7-0 run in the closing minutes of the first half. Foley was fouled behind the arch allowing him to go to the line for three shots and making all. Putting Adelphi up by 15 at the half

I asked Coalmon what he and the guys have to do to stay motivated after a tough loss like this. “We got out toughed, if we remember these next few practices how we got out toughed tonight and use that we’ll be motivated and ready for New Haven,” Coalmon said. After this loss the Panthers still sit in second in their division with two regular season games left. Adelphi will travel to New Haven this Saturday to play the chargers for the second time this season.

Adelphi Panthers trample over the New Haven Chargers

NEW HAVEN, CT—Adelphi beat New Haven 24-9 at New Haven Memorial Stadium. Adelphi spoiled the opening to New Haven’s 100th football season yesterday. This was Adelphi’s second game. The Panthers are 2-0. Adelphi garnered 513 yards of total offense. The Panthers were penalized 11 times for 119 yards. The Panthers also had five fumbles, losing 3.

“We won, so that is all that matters. A win is a win. We’re 2-0. It was a complete team effort and I’m proud of our guys,” said Panthers head coach Joe Smith after the Panthers win. Panthers Freshman RBs Paul Jones and Jimmy Roberts each rushed for over 100 yards and quarterback Cameron Brown threw for 220 yards and rushed for 43.

Adelphi spotted New Haven a 3-0 lead when Jamie Gornell booted a 40-yard field goal 2 minutes, 54 seconds into the first quarter. Trailing 3-0, Jones fumbled on his first carry. New Haven recovered at the Panthers’ twenty three-yard line.

However, on the next play, Adelphi cornerback James McMullen intercepted New Haven QB Johnny Myers to get the ball back for the Panthers. First-year starting QB Cameron Brown, an Adelphi junior out of Brooklyn, directed an 8 play, 73-yard drive that ended with Running Back Paul Jones bullying his way in from the 1 that put Adelphi up, 7-3. “I had my teammates behind me the whole time. With their support, I knew I would work it out. We won the game and that’s all that matters. We win as a team and we lose as a team,” said Jones.

Adelphi kicker Dave Owens kicked a 44-yard field goal to give Adelphi a 10-3 first-quarter lead. Owens, who last week tied a school record as the first-ever kicker to kick 6 field goals in a game, became the school’s all-time most accurate kicker.

Adelphi was up 17-3 at halftime. Adelphi scored 17 straight points in the first half. Adelphi’s defense got the best of New Haven by only letting them score in the first minute of the game and the last minute of the game. New Haven added a 12 yard touchdown pass from QB Johnny Myers with 1:20 remaining, but failed on the 2-point conversion.

Adelphi will travel to Southern New Hampshire next week to take on the No. 3 ranked team in the nation at 4 p.m. Southern New Hampshire has beaten Adelphi four straight times, including a 35-3 loss at Bonomo Field last October. “New Hampshire is a good team. We’ll definitely be the underdogs going in. I’m excited about the challenge,” said Brown. The Panthers defense has allowed just 16 points so far this season.

My Career Goals

My dream job was always to be a New York City firefighter after my father and grandfather. My father and grandfather both began as city cops and then transferred over to firefighters and both did over 20 years in the city. I am the last kid in my immediate family that has the chance to follow in their footsteps. I’ve been to many firehouses and fires to see how those men and women live their lives on the job and how much fun they have and how much they love their job. When people ask me why a firefighter, I tell them because I want to be able to say that I love my job and I love what I do.  In order for me to accomplish this goal I have set other minor goals for me to reach first. My first goal was to graduate high school successfully with no issues. My next goal is to then take the NYC firefighter civil service exam and get a high enough grade to be recognized and to be asked to move on to the next level. My next step is to graduate college and use all 4 years of my athletics eligibility before becoming a full time firefighter.

Introduce Yourself (Example Post)

This is an example post, originally published as part of Blogging University. Enroll in one of our ten programs, and start your blog right.

You’re going to publish a post today. Don’t worry about how your blog looks. Don’t worry if you haven’t given it a name yet, or you’re feeling overwhelmed. Just click the “New Post” button, and tell us why you’re here.

Why do this?

  • Because it gives new readers context. What are you about? Why should they read your blog?
  • Because it will help you focus you own ideas about your blog and what you’d like to do with it.

The post can be short or long, a personal intro to your life or a bloggy mission statement, a manifesto for the future or a simple outline of your the types of things you hope to publish.

To help you get started, here are a few questions:

  • Why are you blogging publicly, rather than keeping a personal journal?
  • What topics do you think you’ll write about?
  • Who would you love to connect with via your blog?
  • If you blog successfully throughout the next year, what would you hope to have accomplished?

You’re not locked into any of this; one of the wonderful things about blogs is how they constantly evolve as we learn, grow, and interact with one another — but it’s good to know where and why you started, and articulating your goals may just give you a few other post ideas.

Can’t think how to get started? Just write the first thing that pops into your head. Anne Lamott, author of a book on writing we love, says that you need to give yourself permission to write a “crappy first draft”. Anne makes a great point — just start writing, and worry about editing it later.

When you’re ready to publish, give your post three to five tags that describe your blog’s focus — writing, photography, fiction, parenting, food, cars, movies, sports, whatever. These tags will help others who care about your topics find you in the Reader. Make sure one of the tags is “zerotohero,” so other new bloggers can find you, too.
